2018 – A reflection

Spending some time relaxing on one of the lesser known areas of Lanzarote has got me reflecting on 2018 and all of the incredible adventures I have had. The British winter has left me a little lack luster, I think it’s a combination of the cold, dark nights and the cooling off period after the holidays. We all go through times like these, even dinosaurs. Travelling with a chronic illness can be challenging at times, as can travelling solo, but it can be achieved with wonderful results. Instead of letting these feelings surround me, I’ve decided to look back on 2018.

I’ve visited 4 new countries in Europe and experienced many different cultures (and food, lets not forget the food). I’ve eaten lots of cake on my adventures which has lead me 4 countries closer to my goal of eating cake in every country in the world. I’ve been on several hairyplanes, where I have been lucky enough to see beautiful views of Europe and countless sunsets. I even got to go on not 1, not 2, but THREE BOATS!

In England, I’ve travelled back in time at Beamish, I’ve hiked through the countryside and along the British coastline.

I got my own passport, allowing me to travel and not hide in the humans suitcase. I celebrated spring in Prague, and became the first dinosaur to climb the Charles Bridge.

I discovered some fabulous restaurants, a few were even vegan friendly! I have also had the opportunity to stay in some fabulous hotels, including 2 on my travels around Italy; Hotel William in Prague, Hotel Palme, and Pietra di Luna Hotel in Italy.

A last minute adventure caused by disrupted travel plans, soon turned into a discovery of a beautiful country containing some of my now favourite places, including Venice. I enjoyed my day trip so much, I am now looking to go back and stay. I also visited the Amalfi Coast and again surprised myself (I need to stop being so sceptical about countries). It’s amazing how much two areas in Italy can contrast. I’ve gotten lost among the Italian cobbled streets, eaten some strange things (chocolate covered aubergine, I’m talking about you) and have watched some incredible weather displays.

I have been lucky enough to make lots of friends along the way; from gladiators to alpacas, and everything in between. Best of all, to end a fabulous year, I met Santa!

Currently, sitting in a coffee shop on one adventure, I am sitting planning my next. 2019 is a year filled with excitement and adventure. Including my first ever long haul flight, which enthrals me and scares me at the same time. Stay tuned to find out where! 2018 has been a year filled with adventure and fun, I can’t wait to see what 2019 has in store.

Happy New Year Everyone!
