Sheraton Can Tho – a hotel review

Can you stay in a luxury 5* hotel stay, and have the full experience in just over 8 hours? The answer is yes it is. I had the pleasure of staying at the Sheraton Can Tho, I would love to come back and have another heavenly breakfast with you. Sheraton Can Tho, if you’re reading, please sponsor me.

The Location

Located on the banks of the Hau River, this hotel is situated in a peaceful area of Can Tho, making it an ideal base to explore the Mekong Delta. It’s conveniently located halfway between the popular area of Ben Tre and the Cambodian border. I found Can Tho to be easy to explore, and staying in a hotel that’s adjacent to the Ninh Kieu Pier makes it easier to return to the hotel after spending time out. The area boasts beautiful landscaped gardens and parks along the riverside, providing an excellent opportunity to take a walk, appreciate the sunset, or just enjoy the scenery. The Night Food Market is just 2km away and is situated alongside great restaurants, making it a great alternative to eating on the streets with the locals.

Ninh Kieu Wharf is a great starting point for visiting Cai Rang Floating Market, which is located 3km away from the hotel. Taking an early morning boat ride to the market can be a memorable experience and an excellent way to start the day. It is an excellent opportunity to witness the local lifestyle and immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of the area. The market is known for its sheer size and is a popular tourist destination in the region. Additionally, there are smaller floating markets in the vicinity, but the sheer size of Cai Rang makes it extraordinary.

It is worth venturing further afield into Ben Tre to explore the mangrove forests and larger rivers of the Mekong Delta. Spending a day exploring the province allows you to see a different side of Vietnam, away from the bustling cities and tourist hotspots. 

The Room

I stayed in a standard room on the 15th floor and found it was huge and perfect for relaxing. The room I stayed in was beautifully designed, with simple, clean lines paired with elegant pieces of furniture, resulting in a luxurious feel. The décor emphasises the aim of relaxation and calm, allowing you to leave the hotel feeling refreshed and well-rested. The colour scheme of creams and blues highlights the area’s strong connection with the Mekong Delta.

The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the pillows were so fluffy I felt like I slept on a cloud. The duvet was so soft and padded that it was like being hugged by a marshmallow (or Cinnabon – insert Homer Simpson gif). I don’t know how the Sheraton hotels do it, but they always have the most comfortable beds.

I loved the comfortable armchair which was near the window. It was the perfect spot to watch the boats and also read. The room also had a workspace, television and ample storage space. The room was big enough for my photographer and me to relax and not feel cramped.

The Bathroom

The answer to the question I know you were all thinking: Yes, the bathroom had a window so you could wave at others whilst sitting in the bathtub. Bathroom windows have to be my new favourite part of Vietnamese hotels, and no, I still haven’t worked out why they are in every hotel.

I love a bath, especially when the bathroom is big enough to have a full-sized tub. A bath is the perfect way to relax after a long day of exploring. The hotel had a range of amenities available in the room, including a toothbrush and body wash.

The bathroom itself was big enough to have a party in. I think some Japanese hotel rooms were smaller than the bathrooms in the Sheraton Can Tho. The bath, shower, sink and toilet have their own space. The shower was in a small cubicle, separate from the bathtub. I appreciated this because I hated having to hurdle the side of the bath to have a shower.

The view

The window filled an entire wall, going from floor to ceiling, illuminating the space with natural light and providing a breathtaking panoramic view over Can Tho. As I gazed out the window, I was captivated by the magnificent sight of the city lights twinkling against the night sky, creating a mesmerizing display of colours and patterns. During the day, the window offered an equally enchanting view of the river, with colourful boats passing by, adding to the city’s charm.

Despite the lack of a balcony, the window more than made up for it, and I couldn’t help but feel grateful to witness such a beautiful view from the comfort of my hotel room. If I had a balcony, it would have become my favourite hotel ever (Sorry Pietra di Luna Hotel). But for now, I was content with the unmatched view that the window provided.

Amenities

As with any 5-star hotel, Sheraton Can Tho had a wide range of amenities, including a spa and shopping mall underneath the hotel. The swimming pool is on the roof of the shopping mall, providing panoramic views over Can Tho. Sadly, the pool was closed when I arrived at the hotel, but there is a bar where you can enjoy a drink. I enjoyed walking around the poolside to enjoy the view of the city at night, and I was disappointed I didn’t have enough time to spend an afternoon here. There are club rooms, a bar on the ground floor and a well-laid-out gym (no prizes for guessing which dinosaur didn’t use this).

Food

I had high hopes about the food following my stay in the Sheraton Grand Edinburgh and was not disappointed. My photographer and I decided to give ourselves 45 minutes in the restaurant for the complete breakfast experience. It was worth it. The coffee was brought to me by a waitress, and if you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ll know how much coffee machines confuse me. Sheraton Can Tho has a breakfast buffet with an incredible range of options, from pho to pastries. I loved the waffle stand because I could put anything on it (including white chocolate and pineapple jam). My photographer was overjoyed because they found beans (you can take the human out of England).    

The pastries were delicious and plentiful, and I tried most of them. I also enjoyed the array of fruit available. Being vegetarian in Vietnam wasn’t hard, but this was the first time I struggled to choose what to eat because I had too many choices. 

Overall

When travelling, I always look for hotels that offer the perfect balance between luxury and affordability. That’s why Sheraton hotels are my go-to choice. Not only do they provide top-notch amenities and services, but they also have a prime location that allows me to access the city’s attractions easily.

I know Sheraton will provide me with a comfortable and enjoyable stay. From their spacious and well-appointed rooms to their excellent customer service, every part of my stay at Sheraton Can Tho exuded quality and elegance. All in all, I highly recommend Sheraton Hotels to anyone looking for an upscale yet affordable accommodation option in the heart of the city.
