It’s been a while hasn’t it, my week off accidentally turned into 10 (sorry about that). Life happens and it decided to throw everything possible at my photographer and I at once. But, we didn’t run away from the challenge. I chose to embrace the chaos and see what incredible places it took me to. In a short space of time, we travelled around the UK, the Netherlands and finally Poland.
The most fun part was completing no. 115 on my photographer’s 30 before 30 list; to move somewhere new. However, they wanted to incorporate this with number 42, learning Chinese. Neither my photographer or I are teachers and wouldn’t want to impart our terrible English on someone learning a second language. Instead, we chose to stick with our current professions and relocate somewhere exciting.
Moving abroad started with a bang quite literally. We set off hoping for a quiet and pleasant flight with Emirates. As always the flight was great but when my photographer ended up having to assist in a medical emergency on the flight, quiet flew out the window (literally). My photographer still blames me for saying the forbidden “q” word. Emirates crew were excellent, but I was horrified to see how few humans know any basic first aid. Statistics show its more likely that you will use it on a family member than a stranger, as it was the case here. Please go on a first aid course, don’t just hope that you will be lucky enough to be near a hospital or a doctor if something bad happens. Thankfully, our tiny misadventure had a happy ending.
We spent a night in a hospital in Dubai before spending 7 hours in the airport trying to find a plane. Emirates rerouted us for free and gave my photographer and I an entire row of the plane as a thank you. It wasnt business class but we could lie flat to sleep so its practically business, right?
Sadly, my suitcase loved Dubai as much as I do, so it chose to stay behind. I told my photographer to pack light but this really made me laugh because we ended up with literally nothing except our backpacks. I like to try and prepare for all sorts of different events when travelling but I never, ever thought my suitcase would go to a different country.
Luckily 48 hours later my suitcase joined me, just in time to start my new adventure in Singapore.
It’s been nearly 10 weeks of exciting adventures, getting hopelessly lost in MRT stations (more on that later) and doing all of this whilst looking like a toilet brush; thanks humidity!
Prior to moving to such a small country, humans told me there isn’t much here. I beg to differ and I have barely scratched the surface. I can’t wait to start sharing my adventures in Singapore and around South East Asia!
